Instructor: Ms. Kay
The mission of the Performing Arts Exploratory Classes is to develop student creativity and performance abilities in order to effectively communicate to others through music and/or drama and to help students become knowledgeable consumers of the arts. Classes are designed to meet the Illinois State Fine Arts Standards and to work toward 21st Century Fluencies of Creative Fluency, Solution Fluency and Collaboratioin Fluency. Grades will be based mostly on performance (teacher assessed and student self-assessment) but will also include written assignments and assessments.

Keyboard: Students will learn the basic fundamentals of playing the keyboard. Students will learn and practice  reading notes in the Treble and Bass Clefs using two hands. Students will play scales, arpeggios, chords, and improvise in major and minor keys. Students will learn the history of the keyboard including various types (harpsichord, piano, organ, electronic keyboards) and the science behind how the sound is produced on each instrument. Students will compose songs and will learn how to use Finale PrintMusic software to write and record music.
